Genius® RF Microneedling

Lutronic Genius Logo

If you’re looking for an effective treatment to minimize acne scars or reduce fine lines and wrinkles, microneedling combined with radiofrequency (RF) energy at our Little Rock, AR, practice is an excellent solution. Genius RF microneedling is safe for people from Conway, Pine Bluff, and Hot Springs of all skin colors and delivers RF energy to multiple skin layers to create smoother, firmer skin.

How does RF microneedling work?

Like other microneedling devices, such as SkinPen®, Genius punctures the skin with ultrafine needles, causing micro-injuries that trigger the body’s natural healing response. At the same time, the needles deliver radiofrequency energy that heats the deeper layers of skin to stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin—proteins that are essential for smoother, tighter skin.

What sets the Genius device apart from other RF microneedling treatments? It is the only one that measures the RF energy as it’s delivered and adjusts during the treatment, which makes it more effective and safer.

What skin concerns does RF microneedling treat?

RF microneedling treats a wide range of skin conditions and is most used on the face, neck, and chest. Patients who want to reduce acne scars may opt for RF microneedling as an alternative to laser skin resurfacing or combine the treatments. Besides acne scars, RF microneedling can treat:

  • Melasma
  • Neck wrinkles
  • Fine lines
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Cellulite

We can often identify skin complexion issues using our advanced VISIA® Complexion Analysis system. Our providers customize GeniusRF treatments by adjusting the size of the needles and the penetration depth.

Microneedling vs. RF Microneedling

Both SkinPen microneedling and Genius RF microneedling increase collagen production by creating micro-injuries in the skin. In addition, Genius emits RF energy through the tips of the needles to further enhance results. Review the table for a side-by-side comparison.

What happens during an RF microneedling treatment?

After cleansing your skin, your provider applies a numbing cream to ensure you remain comfortable during the treatment session. Your provider will enter information about your gender, age, and skin color into the Genius device and then stamp the handheld device—containing a cluster of 49 needles—into your skin. The needles transmit the heat into the dermis, with the provider making 2 to 3 passes across the treatment area. Treating the full face and neck takes about an hour.

How many treatments are needed?

We recommend scheduling at least 3 treatment sessions with about a month between each appointment to get optimal results.

Side effects after an RF microneedling treatment include mild redness and swelling, along with pinpoint bleeding and bruising. These aftereffects can last up to 3 days.

Genius RF Microneedling FAQ

Is microneedling better than BOTOX for wrinkles?

While both are excellent wrinkle treatments, they work in different ways on different types of wrinkles. Differences include:

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic smooths out dynamic wrinkles such as crow’s feet and frown lines caused by facial muscle contractions. It is injected near specific wrinkles you want to treat.
  • RF microneedling smooths and firms the surface of the skin, including mild to significant wrinkles.

Many people attain more complete facial rejuvenation from a combination of these treatments.

How long before I see results?

You may see improvement within a week of your first treatment, depending on the nature of the condition being treated. The skin will gradually become firmer and smoother as collagen increases. Acne scars typically take longer to improve.

What should I avoid after my microneedling appointment?

It’s important to avoid sun exposure for the first 2 weeks after each treatment.

Is the treatment painful?

Numbing cream minimizes any discomfort during treatment. Afterward, the skin will look red but will not be painful.
