Brella® Treatment for Excessive Sweating
If you know the struggle of carrying a spare shirt with you or having to reapply antiperspirant throughout the day, you’re not alone. Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, affects millions of people worldwide and can be a significant source of frustration or embarrassment. Fortunately, long-acting relief is possible with Brella, a sweat control patch that works in as little as 3 minutes.
Our patients visit us for Brella in Little Rock, Arkansas, from Conway, Pine Bluff, Hot Springs and beyond for this quick, in-office procedure without needles or downtime.
What Is Brella?
Brella is an FDA-cleared treatment for hyperhidrosis of the underarms. Its SweatControl Patch features Candesant’s patented TAT technology, which uses targeted alkali thermolysis to treat overactive sweat glands. In other words, the Brella patch has a sodium sheet (an alkali metal) that interacts with the moisture on your underarms to create a heat-based reaction (thermolysis).
Who Is a Good Candidate for Brella?
Brella is safe for all skin types and intended for adults with primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of the underarms). We can discuss whether you are a good candidate for treatment during a consultation. In some cases, we may recommend BOTOX® Cosmetic, especially if your sweating extends to your hands and feet.
How Does Brella Work?
When the Brella patch is applied, it creates a micro-thermal injury that precisely targets the sweat glands, leading to a significant reduction in sweat after just one session. Learn more about how Brella controls underarm sweating in the video below.
What Is a Brella Treatment Like?
Brella treatments are performed in our office. We will ask you to shave or trim your underarm hair 48 hours before your session. Please do not wear antiperspirant or deodorant on the day of your treatment.
At your appointment, we will ensure your underarms are free of abrasions or redness; then, we’ll clean your underarm area before applying a single-use patch for 3 minutes. During this time, you may feel warmth or tingling as the sodium in the patch reacts with your sweat. This is a normal, well-tolerated sensation that indicates that the treatment is taking effect. We will remove the patch, clean your underarm, and repeat the process on the other side.
Is There Downtime After Brella?
Brella requires no downtime, and patients can resume their normal activities immediately. Some patients may experience mild sensitivity and irritation for the first 48 hours. In those cases, we recommend waiting to shave or apply any products to the area. Otherwise, you are free to apply antiperspirant and deodorant after treatment.
When Will I See Results With Brella?
You should start to notice a reduction in perspiration within a few days of treatment. In many cases, a single Brella treatment halved patients’ sweat production! Keep in mind that Brella does not eliminate sweating entirely but restores your sweat levels to normal amounts.
